Two years ago for my birthday my husband gave me an unusual gift -- Invisaline braces -- well 20 months later my teeth look a lot better but I wasn't happy with my 4 front teeth so my dentist suggested "real braces" for top and bottom to do some tweaking.  So last Thursday I got my "tin grin" and it has changed the way I eat.  I make a sandwich and have to cut it up into about 30 little pieces just to eat it, salads are diced, and some of my favorite things just aren't worth it now ... fudgy brownies, cookies, nuts, cereal, toast and jam, crackers, popcorn, chips, pop tarts ... but then again I have to slice a banana to eat it and there is no way I can have my all time favorite fruit-- apples.

I won't wear braces forever (I actually get them off by August) but I like this new eating style.  All the junk food that beckons me has lost appeal.  I have rediscovered smoothies.  So if anyone has some good recipes send them my way.  The McDonald's smoothies are 200 calories and very good but $2.69 a day is a little pricey for this budget-er.

One other thing ... Every time I go on a diet my husband loses more weight than I do!!  He's lost over 10 pounds.  He's a very faithful exerciser so it really goes to show that it's the number of calories we consume that adds weight and we can't exercise enough of those calories away.

Have a great week!  Patti

  1. I have also just discovered smoothies. I usually do: 1/2 banana, 1/2 c sliced strawberries, 1/2 c frozen grapes, 1-2 handfuls of spinach.

Sometimes I change it up with the frozen fruit from Costco. A huge bag is around $10 and it can make a decent amount of smoothies.

Good luck, you can beat your husband, I have faith in you! :)

  2. With smoothies I just throw whatever I have around in a blender. My favorite add-ins are frozen strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, with strawberry yogurt, a banana, and some apple or orange juice.

It is so true that what you eat plays so much more into weight loss than exercise does. I wish it weren't true, but we can't change the facts, can we?

    Good luck!

  3. That is so interesting! I had two really sensitive teeth on one side of my mouth flair up a few months ago. For weeks I was only chewing on one side of my mouth. I found myself eating a lot less because I had to eat a lot slower. It was an unexpected surprise!
