Dear challengers .... and blogger...

So ... I just wanna say that Josh, Carly, Lauren and Cameron are seriously kicking my trash with this challenge so far. You're awesome. But you suck. So there. Just sayin.

Also ... I wish Blogger had a like button. I need FB options on here.

Ok ... so here's a question for everyone.... or ten. Whatever it ends up being...

1) Since I love to cook, and I'm trying to handle my budget and finances better, which means making dinner at home; how do you guys keep track of the amount of calories that a meal contains? That's been one of my biggest pet peeves about changing my eating habits - I can throw together a sandwich, a salad, or snack and know how many calories it contains, because there's a website that tells me so. But let's say I make a kick butt lasagna (because I do... let's be honest here), or make Paula Deen's taco soup - how the H am I supposed to keep track of the calories? Or how much a serving is? Clearly it'd be better than going to a drive thru and eating something there (hello, 1300 calorie dinner), but if I wanted to keep it under a certain amount, please... by all means... inspire me here. lol

2) What are your go to breakfast, lunch and snack options? My mom (who is part of the challenge), will boil eggs and just keep them in the fridge. Which, I love. Cause... I love eggs. In all forms. Except raw. Cause that's just gross. Anyways.... I used to get those 100 calorie snack packs, in almonds or whatever I decided I liked............ and then .... well, I have no idea what happened.

I hear, read, and have been told that quote "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" ... but yeah, my inner voice likes to mentally flip people off and roll its eyes when I hear it. Cause clearly, they've never had my food. LOL

However ......... even as much as I love food, I know there's a skinny girl inside of me that is begging to show up. I hate having pictures taken of myself below my neck. I hate folding my clothes and seeing just how big they are, even though it doesn't FEEL like they're that huge when I wear them.

So ... let's just say that this first week for me has pretty much been a bust. lol But ... Happy Easter!

K-crew.

  1. I found a website where you can enter in all the ingredients in something and how many serving sizes and it will give you a nutritional breakdown--you can also save your recipes. I would google it because i think the one i found isn't the best but there are websites out there.

i am not a huge fruit eater so i have been trying to get my fruit servings out of the way for breakfast. I will blend up a few strawberries, some banana, some frozen grapes and a huge handful of spinach together. it is pretty tasty and it gets me my servings of fruit plus one of vegetables.

    you can do it!

  2. I use LoseIt.com on the computer and on my phone. They have a spot similar to the one Bethany described. You can put all the ingredients you put in the recipe and how many servings and it pops out how many calories for that item. It's wonderful!
I love cereal, I always have. I just make it a priority to eat breakfast. If I really don't have time I'll have a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I get protein and a little sweet and I can take it to go. For snacks, I have yogurt, cheesesticks, or fruit. I try to have my fruit as snacks because it's usually portable and then I can save the room on my plate for the vegetables. If you are having a hard time between meals, try to have mixed snacks from two food groups, like a *small* handful of nuts and some fruit or cheese and fruit or a few whole grain crackers and cheese. That can help control hunger.
And I *promise* you can find good food that's not high in calories. The biggest thing is portion control. You can eat more things and don't have to resort to "diet" crap food if you are careful about your portions. I use smaller plates and measure my food. So I know if I'm really having 2/3 cup of rice or if it's more like 1-1/2 cups. And I find that most of the time a serving of a recipe is not as big as you think it is. So you have to be careful.
    I hope that helps!
